Parker Hanna graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.S. degree in agronomy and animal husbandry, following which he established a ranch at Canyon, Texas. He served several terms as County Commissioner and later became District Agricultural Agent supervising the activities of 23 County Agents in West Texas, While in this position he was a member of and served one term as Chairman of The Southern Great Plains Council, an organization composed of the Directors and Administrators concerned with the agriculture and land use of the five states of the southern Great Plains. He later transferred to the Editorial Staff of the Texas A&M University.
On April 12, 1912, he married Lydia Estelle Brown, daughter of Charles R. Brown of Galveston, and granddaughter of J. M. Brown and Edward T. Austin. They had five children. After retirement, they lived for a number of years in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico.
